Human Skull Found in Mountain Detachment

Search and Rescue Assist Detectives to Recover More Bones Belonging to Found Skull

Yesterday our detectives and forensic investigators went back to the scene where skeletal remains were located near Alder Lake. They were assisted by Search and Rescue, SAR Volunteers to do a more thorough search to try and locate additional bones that were missing from the skeletal remains and possible evidence.

Detectives were able to find more items and several other bones that they could not find on Monday April 24th.

The additional bones were turned over to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office and the other items have been taken for evidence. The cause and manner of death is still undetermined and we will await from more information from the medical examiner.

At 09:06 am, on Monday April 24th, deputies responded to a call of found human remains. Deputies went to the callers home who had taken a photo of a skull and provided them with the location of where she saw it.

Deputies responded to a wooded area north of Alder Lake and found the skull still in the same place. Detectives and forensic investigators responded to the scene. Detectives were able to find more of the remains next to the skull.

The medical examiner’s office responded to take custody of the remains and will help with trying to identify this individual. There is no known cause or manner of death for the person at this time.

We will provide updates when we have more information on this case.
