Purse thief shoots at Good Samaritan, is arrested after vehicle pursuit

This morning, at 9:51 a.m., a 911 caller reported that a strongarm robbery had just occurred at a grocery store in the 15800 block of Pacific Ave S. The suspect had forcefully taken a woman’s purse, which contained a firearm, and fled in a vehicle.

While deputies were responding to the scene, the 911 caller reported that he was following the suspect, and the suspect had fired a shot at him.

Deputies located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle sped away. Since robbery and assault are pursuable offenses, deputies chased after the suspect. They pursued him eastbound on 104th St E, and then onto eastbound SR 512, which turns into northbound SR 167. The suspect exited the freeway at 24th St E in Sumner, but was unable to negotiate the turn at the top of the exit ramp and collided with a tractor trailer. The suspect fled on foot and was quickly apprehended.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

A records check revealed that the suspect’s vehicle had been reported stolen from the King County area.

The suspect appeared to have minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation. Once he is cleared by medical staff, the 33-year-old suspect (it’s his birthday) will be booked into jail for robbery, assault, eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm.
