Reckless Driving
Pacific Ave S & 184th St S, Spanaway

A patrol deputy was travelling northbound on Pacific Ave S when a vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed. The deputy turned around and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. The driver was going approximately 100mph, was drifting in and out of lanes and nearly hit several vehicles. Once the deputy caught up, he initiated a traffic stop. The 50-year-old driver pulled over and was arrested. He was transported to jail and administratively booked for reckless driving. Since it is a misdemeanor and booking restrictions are in place, the suspect was released and charges will be forwarded to the prosecutor.

Weapons Violation
26200 blk Mountain Hwy E, Spanaway

A patrol deputy passed by a power substation and noticed a vehicle parked in the gravel lot. Since there had been several burglaries at local substations, the deputy decided to stop and contact the driver. When the deputy shined his flashlight into the vehicle, he saw an AK47-style rifle tucked between the seats and the back of the cab. He asked the driver to step out and received permission to retrieve the firearm. The 42-year-old driver is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms. He told the deputy that he forgot the rifle was in the truck. He was arrested and booked into jail for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Arson
29200 blk Orville Rd E, Kapowsin

A deputy was dispatched to a vehicle fire on the side of the road. Fire personnel also responded and extinguished the fire. Once the fire was out, the deputy checked for a VIN. The vehicle was a 2005 BMW 325 and had not been reported stolen. The deputy called the registered owner (a 61-year-old female), but she said she had traded in the vehicle a long time ago and was surprised to hear that it was still listed in her name. Since the vehicle was so hot from the fire, the tow company couldn’t tow it until the following day.

11/13/22, Overnight
Vandalism
17100 & 16900 blk Meridian E, South Hill

Sometime overnight, unknown suspect(s) broke windows at a tire store and a restaurant. Deputies were unable to obtain video from the restaurant, but are working to get video from the tire store. It doesn’t appear that any items were taken from either of the businesses. It is unknown at this time if the two incidents are connected.

11/13/22, 2:55pm
Shoplifting, Eluding
10300 blk 156th St E, South Hill

Deputies were dispatched to a shoplift in progress at a large department store. According to a loss prevention officer, the same suspect had shoplifted twice on the previous day and had driven away in a white sedan with Florida plates. The suspect exited the store and made it to his vehicle before deputies could contact him. They turned on their emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle from leaving the parking lot, but the suspect was able to drive around them and get away. Since theft is not a pursuable offense, the deputies could not chase after him. Another deputy in the area deployed stop sticks, but the suspect was able to avoid them.
