Alert deputy spots armed robbery suspect’s vehicle, arrest made

This morning, at 11:29 a.m., deputies were dispatched to an armed robbery that had just occurred at a cigar shop in the 18800 block of Meridian E in Graham.

When deputies arrived, the victim gave them a description of the suspect and his vehicle. Deputies searched the area but were unable to immediately locate the vehicle.

Approximately 45 minutes later, an alert deputy spotted the suspect’s vehicle in the 14400 block of Canyon Rd E. By this time, deputies at the scene had reviewed surveillance video and had developed a very specific description of the suspect. The deputy that was behind the suspect’s vehicle used that information to confirm that the suspect was indeed the driver.

Deputies conducted a high-risk traffic stop in the 5800 block of 160th St E and took the suspect into custody. During the arrest, deputies noticed a large amount of cash in the car.

The victim positively identified the suspect as the one who robbed him at gunpoint.

The 19-year-old suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail for robbery in the first degree. He has no criminal history.

Deputies conducted a records check on the vehicle and it was registered to the suspect.
