Over 80 Rounds Fired in Parkland Shooting

At 01:36 am, on Wednesday July 27th, our dispatch received a call of a shooting in the area of 98th St S and Ainsworth St S. Deputies and Tacoma Police responded to the area and found a vehicle crashed on 98th St S with an injured male inside.

Deputies knew there had been other shootings at a home on 97th St Ct S Sunday night and Monday morning so they responded to that location and found over 80 shell casings in the street.

The man who had been shot in the vehicle had a rifle inside the front seat. The man was treated by deputies and paramedics and rushed to the hospital. Currently he is in critical condition.

A home at the corner of 98th St S and Ainsworth Ave S was struck by the gunfire at least 30 times. A 12 year old girl inside the home was grazed by a bullet. She was treated by paramedics and was able to stay home. Her grandmother woke up to having a bullet sitting next to her arm in her bed.

Detectives responded with forensic investigators to collect evidence and document the scene. At this time we believe the male in the car may have shot at people hanging out in the street and they returned fire. The people in the street fled the scene.

There are no suspects in custody at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
