Deputy-involved shooting in Chehalis

On Feb. 18, at 10:15 a.m., two of our detectives were in Chehalis attempting to arrest a rape suspect. The detectives had probable cause to arrest a 32-year-old male for rape of a child in the second degree. Moments after the detectives contacted the suspect, they reported that shots had been fired and requested priority backup.

Chehalis Police and other agencies responded to assist. Our detectives were not seriously injured and immediately went to the police station.

Local officers conducted a search and located the suspect. The suspect stabbed a Centralia Police officer and another officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect died at the scene.
The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office will be leading the investigation into our detectives’ shooting as well as the subsequent incident involving the Centralia Police Department.

All media inquiries should be directed to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.
