Preparations being finalized for Deputy Mundell Memorial
Posted By Sheri Badger on Jan 2nd, 2010 at 3:25 AM

The Memorial Ceremony for Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy Kent Mundell will begin at 1 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2010, at the Tacoma Dome. The Mundell Family and the Sheriff’s Department would like to invite the public to share in the remembrance of this fallen deputy by attending the ceremony and lining the processional route. The Tacoma Dome will open to the public at 11 a.m.

Deputy Mundell’s family and members of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Mountain Detachment will leave Frontier Park in Graham at 9:15 and proceed to the Puyallup Fairgrounds. They will join the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and participating emergency services agencies for the combined procession which will begin at 10 a.m.

From the Puyallup Fair and Events Center, 110 9th Ave SW, the route will start north on So. Meridian, veering right to 3rd St. SE, then 2nd St. NE. It will then turn west on to River Road, continuing through on Bay Street where it will head west on Puyallup Avenue, and proceed south on C St. to the Tacoma Dome. The first processional vehicle is expected to arrive at approximately 11 a.m.

There will be no public parking at the Tacoma Dome, so the public is encouraged to make alternative plans. Pierce Transit will operate limited bus service to the Tacoma Dome from Cheney Stadium at 2502 South Tyler Street. The service will be free to the public and will begin at 10 a.m. The last bus will leave from Cheney Stadium at 12:30. Buses will make return trips immediately following the conclusion of the memorial service. The public is encouraged to utilize the off-site parking lot.

The procession honoring Deputy Mundell will impact all traffic and travel – including Pierce Transit bus service on many bus routes, especially in the Puyallup and Tacoma Dome District areas. The Tacoma Dome Station will be closed to all bus traffic between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Pierce Transit is rerouting buses around the procession. If your Tuesday travel plans take you near the procession area, give yourself plenty of time, travel before 10 a.m. or after 12 p.m., or be prepared for delays. Delays, route detours, and missed connections may occur on other routes as well.

The ceremony for Deputy Mundell will start promptly at 1 p.m. and is expected to last approximately three hours, including the opening and closing of ceremonies. The speaker and performance schedule for the remembrance portion of the ceremony is as follows:
