Media logistics for Deputy Mundell’s procession and memorial ceremony

Media calls on the day of the ceremony should be directed to 253-798- 7470. You will be directed to someone who can assist.

Planned media accessibility (PIOs will be staffing all of the following locations)

  Frontier Park in Graham – vehicles will begin staging at 8:15 a.m. and will leave for Puyallup Fairgrounds at 9:15 a.m. We ask that you stay in the area designated by the PIOs and respect the privacy of the family and mountain detachment.

  Puyallup Fairgrounds – vehicles will be staged by 8:30. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department will be in the Gold parking lot. PCSD has requested privacy during this time, so there will be no media access to the Gold Lot. All other law enforcement agencies and fire departments will stage in the Blue Lot and media are welcome to set up in the southwest corner (a map will be sent in a second email).

  The Tacoma Dome (2727 E. D St. in Tacoma) – Media will be allowed entry at 10 a.m. and doors will open to the public at 11 a.m. Our PIO team will meet you just outside the upper ‘A’ entrance for entry. There will be inside reserved seating for media – just inside the upper ‘A’ entrance along the mezzanine and near the VIP room. Press passes will not be issued. We just ask that you wear some type of visible ID.

Broadcasters are using pool cameras for the ceremony – no other television cameras will be allowed inside.

If there is a designated pool for still photography, media outlets interested in photographs will be provided with a URL to access them. Photographers should report to the designated media area mentioned above and you will be escorted to the platforms (separate from broadcast platforms) down on the Dome floor. The accompanying map shows the locations. Once the ceremony begins, all photographers will not be allowed to move around and take photos. The only exception is the use of the mezzanine area. PIOs in red vests will escort you at all times.

Radio Broadcasters – if you need to run any phone lines or install any other connections into the Dome’s audio system, please contact Jeff at (253) 593-7618 or John at (253) 593-7628 – if neither one is available the main office can work this for you, (253) 272-3663. All work must be complete by Monday night. Parking Lot ‘D’ at the Tacoma Dome will be designated as a media-only parking area. Please note that the other parking lots at the Tacoma Dome are reserved for the processional vehicles and then service vehicles.

Processional Order of Vehicles

The procession will begin at 10 a.m. From the Puyallup Fair and Events Center, 110 9th Ave SW, the route will start north on So. Meridian, veering right to 3rd St. SE, then 2nd St. NE. It will then turn west on to River Road, continuing through on Bay Street where it will head west on Puyallup Avenue, and proceed south on C St. to the Tacoma Dome. The first processional vehicle is expected to arrive at approximately 11 a.m. and the last is scheduled to arrive by noon.

The order of the procession will be as follows (subject to change – details of exact agencies and participants will be known the day of the processional as they sign in):

Program for Deputy Mundell’s Memorial Ceremony

The first of the procession vehicles should arrive at the Tacoma Dome at approximately 11. Members of the procession as well as other law enforcement and public safety personnel will then enter the Tacoma Dome to assigned seating areas.

The ceremony will start promptly at 1 p.m. and is expected to last approximately three hours, including the opening and closing of ceremonies (you will be provided a script of the entire ceremony upon arrival at the Dome). The speaker and performance schedule for the remembrance portion of the ceremony is as follows:

  United States and Canadian national anthems by Sgt. Jesus Villahermosa of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and Sgt. Patti Lankford of the Washington State Patrol
