Pierce County providing free inspections for flood damaged buildings

Tacoma, WA – January 20, 2009 – Pierce County is providing free inspections to help assess the safety of flood- damaged buildings and help owners begin repairs. Inspectors have already been to many locations making an initial assessment. A detailed assessment is also needed and inspectors will be on the scene within one day of a request from a property owner in an unincorporated area.

A letter confirming the detailed assessment will be sent to the property owner within two days of the inspection. Inspectors will evaluate the safety of buildings and advise owners whether a permit is required. Permits for minor work can be obtained at Planning and Land Services at the Pierce County Annex, 2401 S. 35th St. in Tacoma. Permits also may be required for stream bank stabilization, repairs of landslides, culvert work and tree removal.
