Illness related to carbon monoxide exposure confirmed

Tacoma, WA – December 19, 2006 – There have been 19 confirmed illness reported related to carbon monoxide exposure. A reminder is being issued to citizens who turn to alternative sources of power such as generators.

If you use a generator, do not operate it inside your house, including inside an attached garage. When you use an extension cord to connect the generator to appliances, make sure exhause from the generator is not entering your home through the open door or window that the extension cord passes through. Do not heat your home or cook food by using charcoal briquettes inside. You can prevent further damage

Citizens are encouraged to take action if they sustained damage to their homes in the recent storm. Home owners are encouraged to use tarps or other type of covering to temporarily close off the holes in their roofs. Breezy wind conditions along with rain is in the forecast for Wednesdays. Taking this type of action may prevent further loss due to wind damage.
