Snow and rain mix could cause additional problems

Tacoma, WA – January 06, 2004 – Snow continues to fall throughout Pierce County and is predicted to continue through this afternoon with a transition into rain later this evening. The continued storm activity could pose additional hazards to the current dangerous driving conditions. The snow will become a bigger issue as it mixes with rain and becomes heavy. Home and business owners who have flat roofs should consider removing snow while it’s still dry (and only if safe to do so) to prevent collapse. Also, please be aware that this heavy snow could break branches and fall trees, possibly causing power outages. As the weather transitions into rain, we can expect urban and small stream flooding through the night and into tomorrow. Pierce County needs the public’s help in clearing stormwater drains to mitigate some of these issues. Most importantly, this is a time to take care of one another. Check on your neighbors, stay safe and pack a lot of patience.
