Pierce Transit is the way to go in the snow

Tacoma, WA – January 06, 2004 – Pierce Transit doesn’t stop service because of snowy conditions. In fact, the best thing you can do in the snow is take the bus. When severe weather hits, we do what’s necessary to keep you safe. That means adjusting our routes to avoid unsafe areas. It also means going slower than usual and running vans instead of buses when necessary. Individual routes are put on detour when necessary and will be returned to normal schedule as conditions permit. During bad weather we provide updates to local radio and television stations. You can also talk to a customer service representative at 581-8000, call the Hot Line at 984-8155, or visit our website at www.piercetransit.org. SHUTTLE riders can call 581-8100 for the latest route and service information. Some tips for riding the bus in snow and ice: – Don’t wait for the bus on steep hills-the bus can’t stop there. Instead, wait at the top or bottom of the hill closest to the stop. – Signal the bus as it approaches so that the operator has plenty of time to stop. – Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop and the operator opens the door before approaching the bus. – Use handrails when getting on and off the bus. – Wear highly visible and warm clothing. In the event of a weather emergency, Pierce Transit may need to adjust all or some of the following routes. Routes will be returned to normal schedule as conditions permit.
