Pierce County, State EOCs open in wake of terrorist attacks

Tacoma, WA – September 11, 2001 – Following this mornings terrorist attacks on the east coast, Gov. Gary Locke and members of his staff are en route to the State Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Camp Murray. Pierce County and State EOCs were activated at an intermediate level following the attacks in New York and Washington D.C. The county and state’s current role is to monitor the situation. At this time, there are no known threats to facilities or locations in Washington State. ********** Some emergency reminders:

  Stay off the telephone unless you have a critical need.

  DO NOT call 9-1-1 unless you need an emergency response from police, fire or emergency personnel.

  DO NOT call 9-1-1 unnecessarily, the lines must be kept open for those who have true emergencies.
