First Half Budget Update
Presenter: Gary Robinson, Director of Finance, Finance Department

Part of the quarterly budget updates we get in each committee of jurisdiction. This one is the most critical because public safety & justice services account for 80% of the general fund. The Correction Bureau also accounts for the bulk of the cost overruns though things have improved considerably.

Allocation Advisory Committee Recommendations
Presenter: Stephanie Bray, Social Service Supervisor, Human Services Department

The Allocation Advisory Committee for Prevention Programs makes recommendations to the County Executive and the County Council on intended use of the 1/4th of the 1/10th percent Criminal Justices Sales and Use Tax.

I don’t have the recommendations yet, but last year’s list will give you an idea of the kinds of programs that receive funding.

Lake Enforcement Overview
Presenter: Brian Ward, Sergeant, Sheriff’s Office

In addition to patrols in Puget Sound, the Marine Services Unit is also responsible for enforcement on Pierce County’s lakes including a few on the peninsulas.

Community Liaison Deputy Program
Presenters: Nick Hausner, Bureau Chief, Sheriff’s Department
Jim Heishman, Bureau Chief, Sheriff’s Department
Kym Craven, Director, Public Safety Strategies Group

The program was started this year with the addition of 5 new deputy FTEs. It’s designed to focus on the time intensive work that often goes undone when deputies are busy responding to calls.

12:00pm Tuesday Study Session

Puyallup Tribe 1988 Settlement Agreement Presentation
Presenter: John Bell, Puyallup Tribe Legal Counsel

This should be an interesting presentation. The Land Claims Settlement is almost 20 years old. At the time it was the 2nd largest in US history.

12:00pm Puget Sound Regional Council Project Selection Task Force

I will be representing Pierce County on this task force. It’s purpose is to develop the policy framework for distributing federal transportation dollars in the four county region. This is our first meeting it will mostly be an introduction to policies from the last cycle as well as changes to the federal government’s rules.

My Weekly Calendar

Earlier this year we got a request for my forward looking calendar. Rather than have staff waste their time on public record requests, I’m just going to start publishing screen shots. Keep in mind, my schedule isn’t static. Things will get added, deleted, changed, etc. There are conflicts that I have to pick between. But if people want to see where I’m at and who I meet with, that’s fine by me.
